PI-RADS 3 is a term used in prostate cancer diagnosis and refers to a category of intermediate suspicion for prostate lesions detected on MRI. It means there are features that suggest the presence of cancer, but they are not conclusive enough to make a firm diagnosis. PI-RADS scores range from 1 (very low) to 5 (very high). PI-RADS 3 is a score given to lesions that show intermediate suspicion of being cancerous. Patients with PI-RADS 3 lesions are usually recommended to undergo a biopsy to confirm or rule out the presence of prostate cancer. The MR image features that are used to diagnose PI-RADS 3 lesions include focal or mildly diffuse T2-weighted signal abnormality, with minimal or no diffusion restriction and/or signal drop on dynamic contrast-enhanced images. Treatment depends on the biopsy result, symptoms, age, general health, and other factors.
